Hardscaping is a great way to take your overall landscape design to the next level. Instead of focusing only on your lawn and plants, get creative with some hardscape design that can be both functional and great to look at. Not sure where to start? No worries, we have plenty of front yard hardscape ideas for you!
Create a walkway
What’s a great front yard without a well-designed walkway? There are so many ways to design a great walkway that is both functional and beautiful. We use high quality patio pavers and natural stones to create a variety of different styles. We can design a walkway that works well with your front yard and house style so that the first thing people see as they approach your home is a beautifully designed path.
Integrate seating
Seating doesn’t have to be reserved only for the backyard! You can make the most of your entranceway by integrating a stone bench right into the design. This is a nice way to make your home look more welcoming as well as provide a place to sit back, relax, and enjoy your front yard. This is a nice option if your home’s porch isn’t quite large enough to comfortably fit patio furniture.
Make the most of retaining walls
While the main purpose of retaining walls may be to hold or retain soil behind it, that doesn’t mean it cannot also be a gorgeous part of your overall landscape design. Start with the choice of materials. You can get creative with the type of stones you use, colors of the cinder blocks, and even the “movement” of the wall. Do you want it curved? Tiered? How much room would you like to leave for plants? Retaining walls can actually create more space for flowers and shrubs if you choose to use a tiered design. Take a look at some of our past projects to get a bit of inspiration. Remember, here at Hackmann Lawn and Landscape, we love to do custom jobs, so don’t hesitate to contact us with your own retaining wall ideas.
Make a statement
Everyone loves a lush, green lawn, but it doesn’t have to be the only thing people focus on when they look at your front yard. Why not add a statement area that allows you to draw people’s eyes to something special? By putting down some natural stone or patio pavers, you can create a small area in your front yard that puts something on display. It’s the perfect way to add a couple of chairs and a small patio table to your front yard or even display seasonal items, such as a bicycle with a basket full of flowers in the spring, or hay bales and pumpkins in the fall. By designating a “statement area” on your front lawn, you not only add a personal touch to your landscape, you also protect your lawn from damage caused by placing items on top of it.
Step it up
If you have a sloped yard, steps are a natural additional to the landscape. When paired with a retaining wall, they can enhance the structural integrity of your yard while also creating a welcoming and useful path to your front door.
